ENVIRONMENT

SPETSES' FISHERS INITIATIVE

The Spetses fishers are taking the initiative for the third year in a row to raise awareness about the importance of protecting marine biodiversity.

They refrain from fishing for 10 days in both April and May, during which they engage in coastal cleanups around the island, and provide educational programs for students from elementary, middle, and high school.

This year, HCMR is providing scientific support for creating a waste database, while an information program from MEDASSET on sustainable fish consumption is being conducted for consumers and restaurant owners.

The program concludes with a public celebration where everyone is invited to meet the fishermen and discuss their experiences up close.

We look forward to seeing you there!
